I am becoming leery of any solutions to collective problems that start with, "Everyone should..."
That is not to say we should not continue to stand and fight for human rights.
I'm just coming to believe that any problem solving approach that assumes that the only way to solve any collective problem, either of humanity or of our planet at large, is to make everyone agree on something is bound to fail.
Humanity is a heterogenous bunch. That ain't never going to change. Call it whatever you want, autonomy, free will, etc. To respect autonomy is also to accept that we cannot control others.
We wish for others to use their free will to agree with us. That would be nice. Won't always happen.
Of course, this is also not to say that I believe everyone should believe as I do here, or I'd be making the same mistake.
No. I believe some of us will always try to convince others, and that's fine. And some of us will simply focus on doing what we can where we can. And that's fine, too. This is what it means for me to accept our heterogeneity.
